Calm after the storm!
We finally caught a glimpse of the sun after having forgotten what it looked like over the last week (during which time we’ve had over 180mm of rain), so nipped up the gondola for a peek. Lo and behold, the top gondola station was above the clouds, although they were still looking pretty stormy across the plains.

Shane's 40th birthday
We met up with Shane & Bernadette, Sara & Mark, and Fergus & Meredith at Castle Hill to celebrate Shane's 40th. Shane & I had a great bike ride back from Dracophyllum Flat to the Mt Cheeseman road on a beautifully sunny late autumn day, before the weather turned to custard. The assorted kids decorated Shane's cake, and amused themselves with Lauren & Ella's guinea-pigs.

Calm before the storm
There’s up to 300mm of heavy rain forecast for this week, which was the week we were hoping to start getting the roof on, and I’ve just read that there may be up to 1.2m of snow above 800m as well… Mark has been doing a great job so far, and most of the roof structure is now in place.

Evie's first gym competition
Evie participated in her first rhythmic gymnastics competition, heading down to Dunedin for the Otago Invitational Competition with her friends from Diva RGC. She was very pleased to come 4th in her free routine, 1st in her hoop routine, placing 2nd overall, and gaining a nice medal and a certificate! Ruairi & I entertained ourselves by also heading to the Butterfly House at Otago Museum, and for a wander along the beach at St. Kilda with Ken & Elly.

Another great weekend for being at Castle Hill
Trevor & Della kindly came up to give us a hand finishing off the first coat of stain on the log walls. Yet another beautiful autumn weekend. Fingers crossed for another 2 weeks of good weather until we get the roof on.

Bit of colour
We’ve got stuck straight into the manuka-coloured preservative oil, which at this stage looks quite light, but will be darker after the second coat. Also pictured is the view from the bunkroom.
