Practising with a Canon 7D
One of my colleagues at work, Greg, was kind enough to lend me his Canon 7D for Evie's next gym competition this weekend, so I took it along to her gym club for a practice last night. These are taken at ISO3200, which is about 4 times faster than the maximum ISO I would take with my old Canon 350D. It really is gloomy in the school hall in which they practice, but these came out pretty well - the high ISO capabilities and accurate auto-focus of the 7D really are a step up from my 350D. Still, I hope there's more light in the gymnasium at Villa Maria this weekend for the competition and that I can get some reasonable shots...

Winter cosy-ness
We're really starting to get some bits properly finished off now. The bunkroom & upstairs/master bedroom are finished. The upstairs bathroom is nearly finished. Great weekend up there, just knocking off a few more items on the list, enjoying the winter sunshine and calm weather (while bemoaning the lack of snow!), and enjoying the very simple pleasure of splitting wood (including some of the 350mm house log offcuts) with an axe in the sun..

South Island Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
A team from Diva RGC headed down to the South Island Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Dunedin, where Evie came second (in a small field!) in Stage 2. She performed well, although the lack of practice and previous competition experience this year due to earthquakes showed slightly. Enjoyable weekend though.

Well, what an eventful year we're having
Within the last few weeks, my place of work has burnt down, we've had another Mag 6.3 earthquake, and I ended up as a solo parent when Ildica got stuck in Sydney due to ash from the Chilean volcano. Oh yeah, and I've given up drinking. Anyway, not so much in the way of photography recently, but here are a few from various trips and activities.
The last photo is a bit poignant in that Christchurch's doomed CBD high-rises are still there on the right, but dark and silent, probably destined never to shine out over the city again.
